Summer Oil Series - Dry/Dehydrated Skin Oils
Summer time brings different challenges for many types of skin. In this article we will address Dry/Dehydrated Skin. On future articles we will address other types.

Dry Prone Skin Profiles usually need emollience no matter what type of year. For this article we will focus purely on oils for Dry/Dehydrated that really need lipids/emollients to replenish this lost moisture.

Here are some oils we find that our customers tend to like that are the most popular and effective for Dry/Dehydrated Skin Types.

Prickly Pear Seed Oil - This oil has taken off in the industry. It is being touted for helping with brightening, giving a glow to the skin, and helping with emollience and anti-aging benefits. anti-bacterial, inhibits bacteria growth, does not clog pores, soaks in easily, excellent oil.

Borage Oil is soothing for irritated and damaged skin, as well as a natural anti-inflammatory. It conditions and calms dry and sensitive skin, and also addresses prematurely aged skin. Use on hair and skin to help reduce dryness and act as a barrier to hold moisture in. East Shea Nilotica is purchased from an organization who supports and affirms Fair Trade, but the organization does not belong to the Fair Trade Federation because doing so would reduce significantly the funds they can pass directly to the women's cooperative with whom they work in Uganda. The nuts are sourced from organically grown trees and harvested by the 1600 member women's cooperative who are paid fair trade prices 25 - 50% above the rates women earn in the local markets. The shea nuts are cold-pressed without any chemicals, and the oil is filtered and packaged into sterile containers for shipment to us. This oil is perfectly emollient and brings a lovely softening to the skin.

Meadowfoam Oil is excellent for dry and dehydrated skin, as it is one of the best oils to help prevent moisture loss in the skin. It conditions and nourishes skin, leaving it healthy and smooth. Used on hair or in hair products it adds shine and nourishment.

Hemp Seed Oil has a gentle nutty flavor and scent. This oil is used to reduce skin discomfort by soothing and restoring dry or damaged skin and increasing the natural moisture retention capacity. With regular use, body care products containing hemp seed oil can help slow down the effects of skin aging and leave the skin smooth, soft and moisturized.

Passion Fruit Seed Oil is rich with vitamin A and potassium to help keep skin healthy. As well as being nourishing, passion fruit seed oil is antibacterial, so is good for use on acne prone skin. As an anti-inflammatory and naturally anti-itch, this oil will help to reduce swelling and irritation of the skin. Passion fruit oil also contains ascorbic acid, β-carotene, calcium, flavanoids, phosphorus, and potassium. Gently Brightening. Passion fruit oil has been shown to reduce sebum secretion, promoting a drier skin feel, and is an excellent addition to anti-acne and sensitive skin care applications.

Rosehip Seed Oil - has incredible results when used on aging or mature skin. It helps to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to heal and regenerate cells and boost cellular growth, so as so help heal damaged skin and reduce the appearance of scars. Rose hip seed oil is conditioning, which will help to retain moisture to the skin, helping to hydrate and moisturize dry skin. This oil is extremely rich, and may be too rich for younger skin.

Plum Kernel Oil - is an exotic and rich oil. Although it is very rich, it has excellent skin penetrating abilities and does not leave a greasy residue behind. Plum kernel oil is very nourishing, as it is very high in essential fatty acids that are key to keeping skin bright and healthy. Powerful antioxidants help to protect skin from damaging free radicals. This oil also helps to prevent and treat signs of aging of the skin, keeping it looking youthful and radiant.

Nourishing Oil Blend - This oil is great for scars, as well as amazing anti-aging properties.
