Ingredient Spotlight
Glutathione
What is Glutathione (GSH)?
Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of the amino acids glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine. Glutathione is a small molecule that is produced by our bodies and contained in every cell of our body. Glutathione is crucial to the life of a cell and when impaired or damaged it can result in cell death. Glutathione is considered the bodies strongest antioxidant since it is contained in the cells.

Why do we (GoW) incorporate this ingredient into some of our products?
Good question. I am sure many of us understand what a “free radical” is but for those who don't have this understanding I will take a moment of your time to explain this term and how we fight this damage topically. In general, free radicals attack the nearest stable molecule (inside the cell), "stealing" its electron. When the molecule is “attacked” it loses its electron, and becomes a free radical itself, beginning a chain reaction. Once the process is started, it can cascade, finally resulting in the disruption of a living cell. Antioxidants such as Glutathione neutralize free radicals by donating one of their own electrons, ending the electron "stealing" reaction. These antioxidants are so stable that they are not affected in any way by donating this electron.
After much research we decided this ingredient can only benefit your skin and in so many ways.
As we age our glutathione levels drop rapidly and it is our belief that applying this topically can only add beneficial characteristics to the products we do add Glutathione to.

How does Glutathione work topically?
Glutathione acts as one (if not the best) antioxidants available. Glutathione is also a detoxifer and immune booster. What does this really mean? Glutathione encourages your cells to naturally repair themselves when damage is caused by pollution, aging, skin trauma (it is very healing), burns, etc.

Due to this - we utilize this ingredient in a number of our healing/rosacea and sensitive skin products.
The only warning we would give is to let you know that Glutathione does have a strong smell. Some products out there on the market don't have much glutathione in their products and you can tell this by the lack of smell. In our products we use manufacturer recommended amounts hence there can be a strong smell to the product.
