Butters, Cosmetic (Not Edible)
Cosmetic Butters are easily incorporated into skincare products and quite lovely as stand alone ingredients used on the skin. By using butter on your delicate, possibly damaged skin, the (right) butter will melt gently and be rubbed into the skin. This offers a beneficial protectant while conditioning your skin.
  • Cosmetic butters are used in skincare for various reasons, primarily because they offer skin nourishing and protective benefits.
  • Cosmetic butters such as shea butter, cocoa butter, and mango butter, are rich in fatty acids, which help to hold moisture to the skin and are beneficial for dry and/or dehydrated skin.
  • Butters Do NOT hydrate the skin (water is hydration). When combined with a water-based hydration, they become a magical moisturizer. They create a protective barrier on the skin's surface, sealing in moisture and preventing water loss, which is especially beneficial for dehydrated skin.
  • Cosmetic butters contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that nourish the skin and promote overall skin health. For example, shea butter is high in vitamins A and E, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help to soothe and protect the skin.
  • Cosmetic butters have emollient properties, meaning they soften and smooth the skin. They help to improve skin texture, making it feel softer, smoother, and more supple.
  • Cosmetic butters form a protective barrier on the skin's surface, shielding it from environmental stressors such as harsh weather conditions, pollution, and UV radiation. This protective barrier helps prevent skin damage and maintain its health and integrity.
  • Cosmetic butters are versatile ingredients in various skincare products, including creams, lotions, balms, serums, and masks. They can be easily incorporated into formulations to provide moisturizing and nourishing benefits.
  • Many cosmetic butters are derived from natural plant sources, appealing to consumers who prefer natural skincare products. They are often extracted from nuts, seeds, or fruit kernels using cold-pressing or solvent extraction methods.
Overall, cosmetic butters offer a range of benefits for the skin, including hydration, nourishment, protection, and texture enhancement. Their natural origin, versatility, and effectiveness make them popular ingredients in skincare formulations.
